The Invisible Load of the Holidays
The festive season is now in full swing! A time for catching up with family, treating yourself and binge-watching holiday Hallmark films on Netflix, the December/January period can indeed be a wonderful time… but it can also be chaotic. Inarguably the busiest time of the year, whether it’s meeting end-of-year deadlines, meeting expectations or being full-time ambassadors of fun, it’s fair to say the holiday season adds a lot to all of our plates, especially so for women, whose loads expand to include increased caring duties, planning and prep. During this time, stress, pressure and responsibilities can all mount to a dizzying precipice. The holidays for some, can be an unhappy time where people may feel isolated, down or unsafe at home. For all of us, the festive season will look different and how we feel about it will vary from individual to individual and even from moment to moment. Whatever your plans may be moving forward, we hope that the next few weeks are comfortable and fulfilling and that throughout this period, we can all show up for ourselves and each other when it begins to feel like too much.
